China's per-capita gross domestic product (GDP) surpassed US$5,000 last year, a report showed Tuesday, indicating a rising income level in the world's most populous country. According to government reports compiled by China's state-run Internet Information Center, the country's per-capita GDP reached $5,449.71 in 2011, up 23 percent from about $4,428 in 2010. Of China's 31 provinces, autonomous regions and cities, 25 had their per-capita GDP top $4,000.
